Health Minister : Citizens are partners in combating Covid-19 to minimize losses

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Health Minister, Nathir Obeidat, said citizens are partners in combating the coronavirus (Covid-19), in order to be able to minimize losses while facing the pandemic, and preserve their health and their families'.

The government is working to adhere to transparency and that its procedures are based on correct information and practical studies, Obeidat said in a press conference held Tuesday at the Prime Ministry.

Covid-19 cases in the Kingdom are witnessing a sharp hike, since September 16, and the Kingdom has entered the stage of random spread of the coronavirus, anticipating that the number infections will increase to more than 3000 per day which will place great pressure on the medical sector infrastructure, if the government doesn't take actions.

The Health Minister revealed that there are currently 1,300 beds available in hospitals, including 709 for intensive care, in addition to 600 artificial respirators.

He indicated that the Ministry had secured 5 times the usual stock of seasonal influenza vaccine, noting that the vaccine could be taken at any time during the coming weeks.

On categorizing countries, Obeidat stressed that the list of countries is still effective and will be reviewed and reconsidered from time to time according to the developments in the epidemiological situation.

Obeidat also stated that a 2-week comprehensive curfew would not be effective, as the virus will be spread again after the end of the comprehensive curfew.

With regard to fixed Covid-19 test labs, the Health Minister said that they will be ready to receive contacts of infected cases or those who feel symptoms similar to coronavirus' and test them outside health centers without socializing between citizens.

Obeidat called on citizens to adhere to health conditions, avoid gatherings, events and celebrations that violate instructions and abide by physical distancing, wearing masks and using sterilizers.
