Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Bishr Khasawneh on Thursday pledged his government's full support for the Independent Election Commission (IEC) to ensure a fair, efficient and transparent parliamentary vote as ordered by His Majesty the King.

The government places all of its capabilities, institutions and ministries at the disposal of the IEC for the success of the electoral process from now until the completion of polling, Khasawneh told a meeting with the commission's chairman, board of commissioners and a number of ministers.

The prime minister stressed that all government stakeholders will work to provide all possible means to provide health protection for candidates, their supporters, voters, and election staff to ensure public safety for all.

He emphasized "sacred" respect for the independence of the commission and its law, pointing out that the commission was a milestone in the 2011 constitutional amendments which expressed a royal outlook for the importance of the commission’s role in conducting and supervising elections.

IEC chairman, Khaled Kalaldeh, outlined the commission's preparations for the forthcoming vote, slated for November 10th, and noted the support provided by the government and state institutions.

He pointed out that the deadline given for candidates to object to any elections-related decision taken by the IEC had ended, announcing that the commission will Saturday publish the final lists of candidates, after which voters will be given a three-day window to raise any objection on the lists.

With regard to campaigning, which is already underway, Kalaldeh said candidates have shown adherence to the set criteria which take into account coronavirus-related safety and public health protocols.
