AMMONNEWS - COVID-19 infections in the Kingdom hit a record high with 2,423 on Wednesday, pushing the caseload to more than 30,500 cases, according to a statement issued by the Prime Ministry and Ministry of Health (MoH).

Amman, which reported the majority of cases, recorded 1,319 infections; 538 cases were recorded in Zarqa, 293 in Irbid, 93 in Balqa, 42 in Jerash, 31 in Mafraq, 22 in Aqaba, 20 in Karak, 19 in Madaba, 17 in Maan, 11 in Ajloun and 6 in Tafilah. Twelve non-domestic cases were also recorded.

Thirty-two people succumbed to the lung disease within the last 24 hours as the death toll stands at 257, the statement read.

In their effort to stem the spread of the highly contagious virus, health authorities conducted some 25,300 tests countrywide, bringing the tally to close to 1.5 million. Also, 105 people had recovered and were discharged from hospitals today.

Amid a rising number of cases, the MoH urged people to abide by health measures, wearing masks and gloves, and to commit to defense orders that prohibit holding gatherings of more than 20 people, highlighting the importance of downloading the "Aman" and "Sihtak" apps.
