AMMONNEWS - The government will be more open to media, and adopt a fully transparent and objective approach in addressing citizens, Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh vowed Monday.

The newly appointed Premier said his remarks following the newly appointed ministers' Oath of Office ceremony as he told a press conference: "Addressing the Jordanian citizens, we will not be trying to gain populist related considerations; we will take decisions even if they were painful for the sake of protecting our country and improving the conditions of our citizens - God willing.

He said that his Cabinet is "honored" to have gained the trust of His Majesty King Abdulla II to lead the nation during these "exceptional" circumstances.

He said that in its first session that was held Monday, the government discussed a plethora of pressing issues stipulated in the royal letter of assignment, chief of which is tackling the health and economic ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is stated in the assignment letter that the government should create a balance between preserving the health of people on one hand and protecting the different hard-hit economic sectors on the other.

Khasawneh said the Cabinet agreed to name a health expert to assume the responsibility of managing the COVID-19 issue in the Ministry of Health (MoH), which will be working on building the capacity of the entire health sector.
