IEC didn't turn down candidacy applications, requested list-related changes

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The media spokesperson for the Independent Election Commission (IEC), Jihad Al-Momani, said the commission hasn't turned down any candidacy applications at the list level.

The IEC has asked some candidate lists to alter their generic names for various reasons, primarily to prevent repetition and the use of religious symbols, according to Momani.

Momani said the rejection related to generic list names containing religious symbols aimed to avoid desecrating political campaign posters, which could be vandalized or dumped.

The IEC's request to amend the list name does not mean its candidacy application was turned down in any way, according to Momani.

Any candidate list, whose generic name or slogan was declined, has the right to resort to the judiciary, Momani pointed out.
