Gov't excludes blanket curfews at time being

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The government is closely monitoring the developments on the epidemiological situation in the Kingdom as ad hoc teams constantly review and assess the measures taken against the novel coronavirus, Minister of State for Media Affairs Amjad Adaileh said Wednesday.

Adaileh, who is the also the spokesperson of the government, told journalists at the Prime Ministry that It is highly unlikely for the government to resort to comprehensive curfews in spite of the fact many countries across the world and the region have tightened their restrictions and resorted to lockdowns.

In the process of making decisions, the government takes into consideration the health of the people on one hand and the economic, social and psychological impact of those decisions on the people on the other, Adaileh highlighted.

The minister debunked a rumor that had went viral on social media that the government had approved a three-week full lockdown across the country, adding that such a proposal has never been discussed.

He said that the government has been divulging its decisions without delays for the stated purpose of not allowing rumor-mongers to disseminate misinformation.

"Entering the stage of the pandemic being spread society-wide and the noticeable increase in the number of cases as it reached the majority of the Kingdom's necessitate utmost levels of cautious," Adaileh said, adding "the true responsibility rests with each one of us; our commitment guarantees us a lifeline - Allah willing - and protects us, our families and all of those close to us."

He said that Prime Minister Omar Razzaz instructed the competent authorities to apply defense orders and the Civil Service Bureau (CSB) laws to penalize public servant officials whose institutions had not been committed to safety measures, based on an inspection tour conducted Tuesday by the Audit Bureau.
