[5/24/2020 10:29:43 AM]

AMMONNEWS - Jordanians to celebrate tomorrow the 74th anniversary of the independence of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, hoping for a better future.

Overshadowed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the occasion this year is different from previous ones, as the pandemic has adversely affected Jordan and the whole world as well.

It was the King Abdullah I, the founder of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, who spearheaded the struggle to make the Kingdom an independent sovereign country against formidable obstacles. King Abdullah I declared the Kingdom independent on May 25, 1946 amidst popular jubilation and widespread celebrations.

His Majesty Abdullah II continued the journey upon his Accession to the Throne in 1999. Since then, Jordan made several leaps forward on several fronts; politically, economically and socially.

Jordan won its full independence from the British mandate and was declared a kingdom on May 25, 1946.
