Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi voiced Jordan’s solidarity with France and Italy in their fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and offered the Kingdom’s condolences over the victims who died from the disease.

In a telephone, Safadi and his French counterpart, Jean-Yves Le Drian, reviewed the consequences of the pandemic and stressed the importance of finding collective international mechanisms for dealing with these repercussions.

Also, the two ministers discussed the latest developments in the Middle East and underscored the need for continuous coordination and cooperation. They warned of Israeli plans to annex Palestinian lands, and said such step is tantamount to a violation of international law and risks undermining efforts to achieve comprehensive peace in accordance with international legitimacy decisions.

Safadi and Le Drian said these steps would also trigger a new crisis at a time when everyone is fighting to contain the COVID-19 pandemic and its catastrophic consequences.

Safadi appreciated France's support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and its decision to provide new additional support to the agency, which is suffering from a large budget deficit and needs an immediate $14 million to deal with the fallout of the coronavirus pandemic.

Similarly, Safadi made another phone call with Italian Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio, to offer condolences over the victims of the COVID-19 pandemic and express Jordan’s solidarity with Italy, the most hard-hit European country by the pandemic.
