AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Omar Razzaz on Monday received Chairman of the National Committee for International Humanitarian Law, Retired General Mamoun Al-Khasawneh, who handed him a copy of its 2019 annual report.

During the meeting, which was attended by Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, Mousa Maayta, and government coordinator on human rights, Abeer Dababneh, Razzaz stressed the importance of coordination and complementarity between the committee and the government coordinator, especially on issues related to wars and conflicts and the protection of civilians.

The premier commended the role and efforts of the Committee in clarifying and enhancing the law for many ministries and public and private institutions.

For his part, Al-Khasawneh gave an overview of the commission's history since its foundation and the legislation that governed its work and identified the tasks of its members.

The commission's mandate, he said, is to apply the international humanitarian law's mechanisms at the national level and harmonize legislations to ensure their compatibility with the provisions of treaties, adding that Jordan has signed 14 international treaties related to the same law.

He stressed the importance of familiarizing specialized units in all of the ministries and government institutions with the international humanitarian law.
