Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi on Tuesday discussed with UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peace-building Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo ways of cementing the partnership between Jordan and UN organisations in various fields.

The talks dealt with Jordan's efforts in the fight against terrorism and its dark ideology, with DiCarlo commending the relentless efforts led by His Majesty King Abdullah II to promote regional security and stability. She also stressed the importance of the Aqaba meetings in advancing a holistic approach to combat terrorism.

DiCarlo noted the King's participation in the "Christ Church Call" in Paris to counter extremism and hate speech on the Internet, after the terrorist attacks on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, in March.

Safadi said that terrorism is a common enemy, and that Jordan will continue to confront it in cooperation with the international community, referring to a memo of understanding signed recently in New York between Jordan and the UN Counter Terrorism Office on the sidelines of the General Assembly.

Safadi said that comprehensive and lasting peace is a strategic Arab choice and its path is the two-state solution that secures the setting up of an independent Palestinian state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. He urged the world community to stand up against any unilateral actions by Israel.

The discussion also dealt with efforts exerted to resolve the Syrian crisis and the conditions for the voluntary return of Syrian refugees.
