AMMONNEWS - The Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) Board of Directors called on the Syrian private sector to communicate with its government on facilitating the transit of Jordanian goods and products to the Syrian market without restrictions and canceling any requirements in this regard, especially duties on import and trucks.

During a meeting between the ACC's members and a delegation representing the Damascus Chamber of Commerce, the ACC stressed the need for dialogue to remove trade obstacles, especially as the Jordanian trader did not touch the desired benefit of reopening the Jaber border crossing with Syria.

The ACC confirmed the depth and strength of the "historic" relations between the two countries and the importance of the Kingdom's strategic location to Syria's economy, stressing the need to exclude Jordan from any decisions that hinder the increase of trade exchange.

It also called for increasing transit trade through the two brotherly countries, mutual meetings of economic delegations, holding joint exhibitions and giving priority to the agricultural sector.

ACCs' President Khalil Hajj Tawfiq said that relations between private sectors in both courtiers are strong, pointing that Jordan's exports to Syria increased by 22 percent during the last four months from May to August reaching JD18 million compared with the same period last year, while imports decreased during the same period by 27.6 percent reaching JD8 million.

Al-Hajj Tawfiq also expressed his hope for improving trade relations and cooperation which would remove obstacles that have weakened the volume of trade exchange between the two countries, noting that the chamber will sign a memorandum of understanding with its counterpart in Damascus to enhance cooperation between the two sides.

For his part, member of the Damascus Chamber of Commerce Hassan Azqoul talked about the importance of activating relations between private sectors in both countries, increasing trade exchange and establishing joint projects, stressing that Jordan is an important gateway for Syrian products to reach the Gulf markets.
