PM meets UN General Assembly President

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister, Omar Razzaz, on Monday received the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Maria Fernanda Espinosa, who is in Jordan for a several-day working visit.

During the meeting, Razzaz highlighted the partnership and cooperation between Jordan and the United Nations and its agencies concerned with the repercussions of regional crises on the Kingdom, and raising awareness on challenges facing Jordan.

On the Palestinian cause, the premier said that the absence of a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue fuels most conflicts in the Middle East, and harms regional stability.

He pointed out that Jordan has been carrying out a humanitarian role in hosting refugees over the past decades, stressing the need for the international community to continue to shoulder its responsibilities towards Syrian refugees and support host communities.

Razzaz pointed to the joint programs that are being implemented in cooperation with the concerned local United Nations organizations to ensure that all refugee children have proper education opportunities.

He briefed the UN official on government programs to empower and equip young people with necessary skills, and promote women's participation in the labor market.

Espinosa underscored the important role Jordan plays, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, in enhancing international security and stability, and the prospects of achieving peace in the Middle East.

On her visit to the Kingdom, she said: "We value our strong partnership with Jordan and are committed to working together to achieve peace and stability in the region."

She lauded the Kingdom's role in hosting refugees and providing relief and humanitarian services to them, calling on the international community to continue supporting Jordan to carry out this noble role.
