Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Vice Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), Emad Hijazin discussed with US Charge d'Affaires in Jim Barnhart cooperation in the field of investment and the importance of developing the port system in Aqaba.

The meeting was held during Barnhart's visit to the southern city of Aqaba on Sunday.

Hijazin stressed the importance of signing the memorandum of understanding with the Saudi Jordanian Investment Fund for the construction, management and operation of Ma'an land port and linking it by railroad with the Aqaba ports system and the Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) to achieve a qualitative logistic leap that meets the needs of the Kingdom from imports and exports. It also meets the needs of the rebuilding process at the region's countries which are affected by wars and conflicts.

Hejazin reviewed the ASEZA's strategy for the years 2018/2025, which was based on a set of digital indicators to be implemented.

Director General of the Aqaba Company for Ports Operation & Management, Mohammad Mubaidain, briefed the US official on the ports system in general and the Aqaba new port in terms of its importance to the Jordanian national economy and the economies of neighboring countries.

"16 years ago, when we were talking about the overall plan of the private zone and about this project and the private sector partnership to bring in a private port management company, there was a lot of interest in this issue," Barnhart said.

"Today, after these years, we see that ACT is one of the most important companies to operate ports in the world and maintain efficiency," Barnhart added, underling the US keenness to strengthen relations with Jordan.
