Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Public Security Directorate (PSD) has warned citizens to take precautions to avoid fraud in the exchange of foreign currencies below the market price.

Despite repeated warnings issued by the PSD to raise awareness and to avoid falling victim to fraudulent practices, particularly the possession of foreign currency exchanged lower than the market price, but some people still get defrauded, Media Spokesperson of the PSD, Amer Sartawi, said in a statement on Wednesday.

"There is nothing called foreign currency traded less than the market price, and anyone who claims to own it is a fraudster, and must be avoided and reported immediately, wondering if such currencies exist and generate profit as the fraudsters claim, why don't they themselves benefit from them?" he wondered.

Commenting on a specific fraud case, which took place south of the capital Amman, he said the Criminal Investigation Department began probes yesterday in a complaint filed by a citizen on his loss of JD36 thousand, after a fraudster managed to convince him of owning a foreign currency sold less than the market price.

The victim handed over the cash money to the alleged foreign currency trader, waiting for the fake cash, but the fraudster vanished, he said.

He said investigations led to identify the fraudster, who has several criminal records in such cases.
