Cabinet endorses general pardon bill

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The government on Monday approved the draft general pardon law for the year 2018, which it said aims to enshrine the concepts of tolerance and forgiveness, enhance social security and grant convicts and criminals the chance to correct their behaviour and integrate in society.

The bill, it said, also seeks to achieve a balance between the right of society to punishment and safeguarding the personal and civil rights of those affected by crime, ease the social pressure on citizens and promote the principle of reconciliation in criminal cases.

But the draft excluded serious crimes affecting the security of society, such as crimes against the internal and external security of the state, espionage, economic crimes, corruption, terrorism and public office crimes.

It also exempted drug offenses, arson, murder, theft, forgery, financial fines resulting from tax and customs evasion and traffic violations that endanger lives.

The bill also suspends the general pardon for some crimes pending that those affected their personal rights, and that the complainant forgives in such crimes as causing death, murder, abuse, brawls, fraud, misuse of credit, threats, extortion, slander and vilification, perjury and claim checks.
