AMMONNEWS - Relatively cold weather is expected to prevail on Thursday bringing cloudy skies and scattered showers with westerly moderate winds, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its daily brief.

Rainfall might be heavy at times in the northern regions, causing floods in the valleys and the low lands, the JMD said further.

Daytime temperatures expected for today in Amman and the northern cities will hover around 17 degrees Celsius, and 17 in the southern governorates, dropping down to 10 and 5 respectively. The weather will be warmer in the port city of Aqaba with highs reaching 27 degrees Celsius and lows standing at 17, the JMD explained.

On Friday, the country will be affected by a cold air mass accompanied by depression centered over Cyprus, with a slight drop in temperatures and clouds at different altitudes.

"Showers are expected to be heavy in the northern and central regions, accompanied by thunder and hail and causing floods in the low lands, the JMD added.

Friday night, the showers will decrease, weather conditions will be stable and winds will be southeasterly moderate to brisk, stirring dust in the Badia.

A slight rise in temperatures is forecast on Saturday, but the weather will remain relatively cold in most parts of the country and moderate in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Aqaba, with fog formation in early morning at mountain highlands, the JMD further said.
