Municipal, governorate council elections start in Muwaqqar

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Voting for municipal and governorate council elections began in the Muwaqqar District, south of Amman on Saturday.

The Independent Election Commission (IEC) decided to re-hold the municipal and governorate council elections in Muwaqqar after it cancelled the voting and sorting of the 2017 elections in the area, due to violations committed in the Central District Badia.

IEC spokesperson, Jihad Momani, said the elections include head of the Muwaqqar Municipality and 13 local councils in constituencies 28 and 29 affiliated with the Capital Governorate Council.

A total of 20,652 citizens, including 8,815 males and 11,837 females are eligible to vote, while the number of candidates stands at 90 and the ballot boxes at 43.
