People's right to know motivates Gov't to improve legislation on access to information

AMMONNEWS - Minister of State for Media Affairs and Government Spokesperson, Jumana Ghneimat, said the government believes in the people's right to know, which motivates it to improve legislation governing the right of access to information and dedicate it on the ground.

The minister made her remarks Sunday evening during her participation the International Day for Universal Access to Information event, organized by the UNESCO in cooperation with the Al Yarmouk University and the European Union at the Crown Prince Al Hussein Bin Abdullah II Complex in the university.

"Access to raw information may be easy, but using it to make a difference in our future and our lives is important because information has important and investment value," Ghneimat said.

She added that the government recently referred to the House of Representatives an amended law to the Access to Information Law for discussion and approval. The minister noted that the amendments, although limited, but they devote the right to access information in a positive and easy manner.

She indicated that the government has set up an electronic platform to monitor, sort and clarify news to seek the truth. This platform is a government goal that could be used to reduce the gap in relations with citizens and restore confidence in the official media as an important and credible source of information.
