Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordanian Prime Minister Omar al-Razzaz on Monday met Palestinian counterpart Rami al-Hamdallah to discuss recent developments pertaining to Jerusalem and the Palestinian cause.

The meeting was held in Jordanian capital Amman after al-Hamdallah arrived in the country earlier Monday for an official visit.

At the meeting, al-Razzaz reiterated Jordan’s longstanding support for the Palestinian quest for statehood, according to the official Petra news agency.

Petra quoted al-Razzaz as saying that Jordan’s stance on the issue “has not and will not change”.

This stance, he said, “is based on the principle of a two-state solution; an end to the Israeli occupation; and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital”.

Jordan, the prime minister went on to assert, “continues to put Palestine at the top of its list of priorities”.

Attended by top-level officials from both sides, Monday’s discussion also tackled regional developments and bilateral trade relations.

Al-Hamdallah, for his part, conveyed his appreciation for the Hashemite Kingdom’s “continued support for Palestine”, according to a subsequent statement released by his office in Ramallah.

He also praised Jordan’s position regarding a backchannel U.S. Mideast peace plan details of which have yet to be made public and Amman’s stated support for a sovereign state of Palestine.
