King attends Independence day celebration

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II attended at Al Husseiniya Palace on Thursday the official national celebration marking the 72nd Independence Day with Her Majesty Queen Rania and HRH Crown Prince Hussein.

Upon the King's arrival to the site, the artillery performed a 21-gun salute while the national anthem was played.

During the celebration, which was attended by a number of Royal family members, Prime minister Hani Mulki, Senate President Faisal Al Fayez, Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh and President of the Judicial Council Mohammad Al-Ghazu delivered speeches in which they recalled achievements that have been made since the Kingdom's independence until today.

During the celebration, which was also attended by top civil and military officials, His Majesty decorated a number of achievers along with national organisations with impressive track records at the local and international levels.

Their Majesties King Abdullah and Queen Rania as well as Prince Hussein watched a short film that highlighted accomplishments that have been made by these institutions and individuals.

Prime Minister Hani Al Mulki delivered a speech in which he pledged allegiance to the King, noting that Jordanians did not spare an efforts to protect their independence, achieve their aspirations and preserve their accomplishments.

Al Mulki highlighted sacrifices of the Hashemites to defend just Arab causes, mainly the Palestinian issue, Jerusalem and its Muslim and Christian holy sites.

He stressed the importance of addressing economic challenges facing the Kingdom and enhancing economic independence, adding that Jordanians have a strong will to come up with solutions to challenges facing them.

Independence, Al Mulki said is a struggle to achieve development and modernization and overcome challenges and hardships facing the country.

Senate President Faisal Al Fayez also spoke about achievements that have been made since Jordan's independence under the Hashemite leadership, as well as the Hashemites role in defending Jerusalem and its Muslim and Christian holy sites. In his speech, Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh voiced pride in this occasion and pledged support to His Majesty as the custodian of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. He also praised efforts of King Abdullah to achieve peace and security in the region.

The President of the Judicial Council Mohammad Al-Ghazu said May 25, 1946 was a turning point in the history of Jordan, with which the march of giving, development and good governance began.
