Jordanian efforts on recommendations of UPR reviewed

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Government Human Rights Coordinator Basel Tarawneh announced the comprehensive report on Jordanian official efforts to implement recommendations of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR).

The report highlights major programs and activities related to the Comprehensive National Plan on Human Rights as well as recommendations of the National Center for Human Rights as well as the civil society.

The announcement comes in preparation for discussing Jordan's report to the United Nations Human Rights Commission in Geneva in December 2018.

Tarawneh said that Jordanian institutions began intensive efforts to implement commitments to enhance human rights, noting that Jordanian ministries and government institutions took measures to achieve this objective.

On measures of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, Tarawneh said that with regard to the efforts made by the Ministry in order to reduce gender disparities, it has worked to integrate gender and women's rights into the vision of Jordan 2025 which aims to institutionalize the methodology of equal opportunities and justice within the development policies and programs.

Regarding measures of Ministry of Education, Al-Tarawneh said that the Ministry has prepared concepts related to the promotion of social justice, the rule of law and respect for human rights according to the age of student. It also analyzed textbooks to determine the availability of these concepts, address weaknesses through scientific texts, activities and educational attitudes.

As for the work of the Ministry of the Interior, Al-Tarawneh affirmed that the provisions of Article 8 of the Jordanian Nationality Law stipulate that a foreign woman who marries a Jordanian man must obtain citizenship with the consent of the Minister of the Interior if she wishes to do so.

As regards the children of Jordanians they are given identification cards and provided with facilities and benefits and exemption from fines If they exceed the period of stay for their residents.
