King, Iraqi top diplomat discuss ties, region

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II Monday received Iraqi Foreign Minster Ibrahim Jaafari at a meeting to discuss bilateral ties and developments in Iraq.

"Jordan and Iraq are bound by brotherly and historic relations", the King told the Iraqi top diplomat and his accompanying delegation, voicing his keenness on sustaining two-way cooperation in all fields, particularly in the economic and trade domains to serve the mutual interests of the two countries.

"We are in the same trench in the fight gainst terrorism", King Abdullah said, emphasizing that Jordan is interested to see a united, stable and prosperous Iraq and a pillar of security and peace in the region.

King Abdullah, moreover, voiced Jordan's support of its Arab neighboring country in its war against terrorism and the Iraqi armed forces' endeavors in this regard.

His Majesty also noted the importance of the inclusion of all sections of Iraqi society in the political process, and voiced the hope for holding successful parliamentary elections in the Arab country.

Talks also touched on developments in the Middle East and efforts to realize political solutions to regional crises.

The Iraqi minister, for his part, lauded Jordan's firm stance advocating for the unity of Iraq and supporting it to address its challenges, and stressed that King Abdullah's stance is honorable and will be recorded in history.

He also voiced his country's commitment to further consolidate relations with Jordan and expand bilateral cooperation to serve the interests of both countries' peoples.

Further, he hailed the facilities Jordan offered to ensure a smooth polling for Iraqis residing in the Kingdom in their country's parliamentary elections slated to be held later this month.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Advisor to His Majesty the King and Director of the King's Office, and the Iraqi Ambassador in Amman.
