Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi and his British counterpart Boris Johnson Thursday underscored the "long-standing and deep ties" between the two friendly countries, as well as the mutual effective steps taken to foster cooperation in economic, investment, defence and security areas.

During a meeting in London, the top diplomats also highlighted the important outcome of the discussions made by His Majesty King Abdullah II and Prime Minister Theresa May during her visit to Jordan back in November.

The two officials also discussed the latest developments in the peace process and emphasized the need to step up efforts to end the political stalemate and find real prospects to solve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution.

The meeting, moreover, touched on the developments in war-ravaged Syria, where both minister spoke with one voice that there is no military solution to the crisis in the Arab country but a political one based on the UN resolution 2254.

Safadi also spoke about the enormous pressures placed on Jordan due to an ongoing exodus of Syrian refugees into the resource-poor Kingdom, which hosts a round 1.3 million Syrian refugees and commended the support extended to Jordan by Britain and the international community to help it continue its humanitarian mission.

For his part, the British minister lauded Jordan's humanitarian role towards the refugees as well as the Kingdom's endeavors to bring about peace and security in the region.
