Japan provides urgent refugee aid to Jordan

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Japanese government, on Tuesday, decided to grant $4 million in aid to Jordan as part of a $14-million emergency aid package for refugees in the Kingdom, Syria and Lebanon, who are living in dire humanitarian conditions.

The package covers health, medical care, food and basic needs, according to an official statement from the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

In Syrian refugee camps, health condition of approximately 43,000 vulnerable children and women will be improved by implementing activities such as immunization. Furthermore, approximately 12,000 primary health care consultations for Syrian refugees in north-eastern area and medicines for approximately 1,150,000 Palestine refugees will be provided, according to the statement. It added that the environmental health condition of approximately 400,000 Palestine refugees will be improved by strengthening solid waste management.

The assistance will be provided through six international organizations, including the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
