Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Minister of State for Media Affairs, Mohammed Momani, voiced Jordan's unwavering commitment to consolidation of international peace, security and stability.

The minister's remarks came during a speech he delivered at the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) held in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku, adding: "Jordan's policy has been, and will remain, based on propagating the message of tolerance, and cooperation with the international community on the basis of mutual respect, non-interference in the affairs of others, and support for policies and programmes aimed to promote development and peace worldwide." The minister, who is the Government Spokesperson, chairs the Jordanian delegation participating in the Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement, which is held with the participation of 120 member states of the movement, 17 other non-member countries and 10 international organizations as observers, alongside 800 participants.

In his speech, Momani stressed Jordan's commitment to cooperate with the bloc's countries to realize and maintain its principles in a bid to achieve a secure and stable world to counter the imminent threats.

Momani stressed Jordan's firm stance towards the Palestinian issue, as it is the central issue, and the basis of the conflict and tension in the Middle East.

"There is no way to resolve conflicts and to end chaos in the region without ending injustice, oppression and occupation on Palestinian brethren. This is a major perquisite to realize regional and global security and stability," he added.

The minister called for the need to cooperate and launch serious efforts to revive the peace process, exert pressure to implement a serious and effective international endeavor and kick off true negotiations within a specific time schedule that would lead to the realization of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, on the 4th of June 1967 borders, in accordance with the international legitimacy resolutions.

He said Jerusalem is one of the final status issues, and it is not solved according to a fragmented framework, but within a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

He pointed out the status of Jerusalem is decided by direct negotiations and tampering with this issue is a candid provocation to Muslims and Christians alike.

On the US administration's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, Momani reiterated the Kingdom's efforts to work with the international community and institutions to alleviate consequences of this move.

Under the historic Hashemite trusteeship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, Jordan would continue to counter all attempts to change the legal and historical situation in the holy sites in East Jerusalem and would defy with all legal and diplomatic means Israel's attempts to change the Arab-Islamic identity in the city, he noted.

Momani expressed Jordan's thanks and deep appreciation to all Non-Aligned Movement countries for their support of the Hashemite guardianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem as part of the final communiqué to be issued.

He stressed the need for continued flow of financial support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to enable it provide its services and called for greater support and concerted efforts to enable the agency to solve its crisis to ensure the refugees' right to live in dignity.

On the Syrian crisis, Momani reiterated Jordan's firm stance and its commitment to engage in international diplomatic efforts to achieve peace in Syria and to support endeavors of the UN Special Envoy to Syria, stressing the need to implement the Security Council resolutions in connection to the situation in Syria, the last of which is 2401 to shun further destruction, suffering, and displacement.

"The Syrian crisis has entered its eighth year. From the beginning, Jordan has affirmed that a peaceful political solution is the sole way out of the crisis, and that the military option will exacerbate the situation, which would lead to more chaos. Jordan hopes all efforts will be concerted through Geneva process to achieve a solution that brings security and stability for the brotherly Syrian people and preserves Syria's unity and sovereignty, " he explained.

He added: "Jordan has always provided relief to whoever needs it despite the scarcity of its resources, and the pressing economic challenges it battles, on humanitarian and moral grounds and on behalf of the international community as a whole. " He pointed out Jordan highly appreciates the humanitarian and financial support provided by many countries and international organizations to address this crisis.

" However, it must be recognized that what has been offered does not rise to the level of what Jordan is shouldering," he said.

He pointed out the burdens of the refugee crisis extended to the host communities and adversely impacted economic and developmental aspects of life, alongside their political, security and social dimensions.

He called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities, intensify its efforts and augment mechanisms of support to help refugees and their host communities to face these burdens.

Momani said Jordan has been and remains a strong supporter and a strategic partner in the fight on terrorism.

" Amman has always called for launching a holistic, participatory and global approach that leads to the total eradication of terrorism and its root to protect the entire world from its evil and its heinous practices," he added.

Jordan's war on terror strategy is based on three major axes: the military, ideological and security as an integrated plan.
