Jordanian, Romanian electoral bodies sign MoU

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and the Permanent Electoral Authority (PEA) of Romania on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for joint cooperation in the presence of the IEC's Board of Commissioners, its General Secretariat and the Romanian envoy here.

During the ceremony, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the IEC, Dr. Khalid Al-Kaladah, said the agreement aims to cement ties between the two bodies and to enhance prospects of joint cooperation in the fields of electoral management, exchange of relevant information, expertise, and consultation in the voting issues.

In a press statement, Al-Kaladah said the two sides discussed ways to spur joint cooperation in the field of training electoral manpower, voting technology, voter awareness, women's participation, security measures, in addition to facilitating exchange of visits between the two parties for research purposes.

The two sides also pledged to put in place a 10-year long-term action plan under which Romania's Permanent Electoral Authority would support its Jordanian counterpart, in a bid to set up the Jordan Electoral Institute.

The IEC's women cadres attended the signing ceremony, in honor of the International Women's Day and in recognition of their efforts and achievements in all fields.
