Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan welcomes the Security Council resolution to deem the Syrian government liable of funneling relief aid to internally displaced persons (IDS) at Al-Roukban camp near its northern borders.

This step is in line with Amman's stance to deem responsibility to deliver humanitarian assistance to Al-Roukban's residents a part of the role of Damascus and the international community.

The Security Council on Saturday's evening adopted a resolution demanding all conflicting parties in Syria to halt hostilities for a month countrywide, including the eastern Ghouta district, to clear way for int'l organizations to deliver emergency humanitarian assistance necessary to the besieged people, and the IDS at Al-Roukban camp included.

The resolution, 2401, also voiced concern over the humanitarian plight at Al-Roukban and stressed the dire need to ensure relief deliveries to the camp, and to find a sustainable solution to its IPDs' crisis.

The Minister of State for Information Affairs, and Government Spokesperson, Dr. Mohammad Al-Momani, welcomed the resolution, which would stop bloodshed in Al-Ghouta district and the various areas of conflict.

He said the move confirms that the camp's residents are displaced and not refugees and assistance should come from within Syria, which is responsibility of Syria and international community, as Jordan has always emphasized.

The sustainable solution, referred to in the resolution, means the return of the camp's displaced people to their cities and villages, which Jordan has always called for and demanded, the minister said.

He renewed Jordan's stance calling for a political solution to the Syrian crisis and ending infighting across the country, in a bid to spare its brotherly people the scourge of conflict and destruction, and to guarantee Syria's unity and sovereignty on its territory.
