Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Ayman Safadi, on Tuesday, continued his contacts and consultations with a number of his counterparts to discuss ways to deal with an imminent US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, a move the Kingdom considers a violation of international legitimacy's resolutions and the United Nations' charter.

Safadi discussed the issue with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, Algeria's Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel and Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mauritania, Isselkou Ould Ahmed Izid Bih.

The foreign minister also continued his intensive consultations with the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Secretary-General, Saeb Erekat, to formulate a plan of action to deal with the repercussions of the US decision, which will increase tension in the region and undermine efforts to revive the peace process.

In his talks with his counterparts, Safadi said all international resolutions and agreements stipulate that the status of Jerusalem should be decided in final status negotiations and that all unilateral Israeli measures in Jerusalem are considered null and void.

He stressed that Jerusalem is a Palestinian-Jordanian-Arab-Muslim-Christian issue and that unilateral attempts on this issue would have serious consequences.

Jordan will call for two emergency meetings of the Arab League ministerial council, on Saturday, and foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Sunday, to coordinate Arab and Islamic positions on the implications of the upcoming decision.
