Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Jordanian government announced that Israeli decision to reverse its unacceptable measures at Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram al-Sharif, is a key step to restore calm in the occupied Palestinian territories, especially in holly sites.

Dismantling metal detectors and surveillance cameras installed at al-Aqsa Mosque is a major step to preserve the legal and historical status quo in Jerusalem," Minister of State for Media Affairs, Mohammad Momani said.

The minister highlighted efforts made by His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Custodian of Islamic and Christian Holy Sites in Jerusalem, in coordination with the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his firm stance in rejecting Israeli attempts to change the status quo in Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The spokesperson added that bringing the situation in al-Aqsa Mosque back to what it was were before 14 July is an assertion of the importance of not compromising the historical and legal status of the holy sites, stressing the importance to establish a political horizon for ending the conflict based on international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Momani expressed Jordan's appreciation of the role of Jerusalemites and al-Aqsa guards, who confronted the latest Israeli measures and refused to accept and deal with these violations, hailing at the same time their steadfastness and fixed stance in defending their holy shrine .

Momani hoped that Palestinians would perform their Friday prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque peacefully as they have been doing over centuries, and the situation will return back to normal without provocation or any attempts from the Israeli side to change the status quo of the holy sites.
