Deputizing for King, chief justice opens conference on Islam

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Deputizing for His Majesty King Abdullah II, Chief Justice Abdul Karim Khasawneh opened in Amman on Thursday, a conference on Islam and Contemporary Challenges.

The three-day conference is an outcome of the international conference on the Amman Message which was held in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2013 with the participation of more than 700 intellectuals, academics, scholars and Indonesian universities students.

Head of the conference's preparatory committee Abdul Salam Abbadi said the conference will discuss 35 working papers on ways of addressing the challenges that face Islam and the Islamic world.

He added that the conference's sessions will also review terrorism, means to combat it, issues pertaining to Muslim women, globalization, Islamic media discourse, Islamophobia, sectarianism, ways of tackling poverty and unemployment as well as achieving comprehensive development.
