Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, Monday, said the upcoming Amman summit is an opportunity to restore initiative and consensus on policies that could put us on the road to contain crises and overcome challenges.



Addressing Arab foreign ministers gathering after assuming presidency of the meeting from Mauritanian counterpart, Safadi said: "It is true that we have differences in views and polices, but we share consensus that would make adopting coordinated stances to address crises an available option".



"We are meeting in a difficult Arab time dominated by crises and conflicts that deprive our region of the security and stability we need to meet the rights of our peoples to development, education, work and hope", said the minister.



He added that the Palestinian cause is the core conflict in the region, stressing the need to end the injustice and the sufferings of our Palestinian caused by the Israeli occupation based on the two-state solution.



Safadi continued: "We agree that bloodshed in Syria must stop and find a political solution that guarantees the war-torn country’s security and stability as well as preserving the unity and integrity of its territories.".



The minister also spoke about Yemen saying: "We want a solution to Yemen's crisis, based on the international legitimacy resolutions, outcome of the Comprehensive National Dialogue and the Gulf initiative Conference". He added we also endeavor to restore peace to Libya in accordance with a political solution based on the Skhirat agreement.



The diplomat reiterated :" What unites us is greater than what divides us, however, common challenges require joint action to confront them, indicating that our regional Arab system is not perfect, but it is the best we have, and we can further develop it through consensus on practical work programs that would put us on track for more effective solutions challenges and crisis facing the region."

Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Aboul Gheit stressed the importance of providing all possible support to countries hosting Syrian refugees, mainly Jordan and Lebanon.

He also called for putting an end to bloodshed and war in Syria, and reach a political solution that preserves the country's unity and achieve the aspirations of its people.

Aboul Gheit also stressed the need for an Arab solution to the crises in Libya, Yemen and Syria.

He also reiterated the centrality of the Palestinian issue as well as the importance of solving the conflict on the basis of the two- state solution and establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
