Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, said Jordan wants the Arab Summit to be a platform for open and transparent Arab dialogue capable of enhancing the Arab world's ability to deal with various challenges.

Speaking to journalists at the Dead Sea shore Sunday evening, the foreign minister highlighted the main issues to be discussed at the summit, foremost of which is the Palestinian issue, adding that its centrality and the importance of relaunching serious and effective negotiations leading to a two-state solution will be emphasized.

The summit will also deal with Jerusalem, which is a very important issue for His Majesty the King, who is the Custodian of Islamic and Christian Holy Sites in the Holy City, noting that Jordan always addresses any practices that attempt to change the identity of the Holy City and its landmarks and there will be an emphasis on the Jordanian role in this regard.

He added out that there are many issues that will be discussed at the summit, as well as many challenges that need to be dealt with in a high sense, including the Syrian issue, terrorism and developments in a number of Arab countries, including Iraq, Yemen, Libya and Sudan.

Al-Safadi said Amman will always be the capital of pan-Arab accord and consensus, adding :"We will do our best with any role leading to good Arab relations. Jordan will continue to gather and build on what is inclusive. Jordan will be a platform for inclusive dialogue," Safadi reaffirmed.

"We are talking about 21 countries and there might be no consensus on all issues, but what brings us together is more than what divides us and Amman will always remain as a platform to achieve consensus in Arab positions and harmony," the minister noted.

On the Syrian crisis, he pointed out that this issue will be discussed at the meeting of foreign ministers tomorrow, stressing that there is a need to reach a political solution "that brings us to the reality of resolving the Syrian crisis and achieving the aspirations of the Syrian people."

He underlined as "clear" the Jordanian position on the Syrian issue, stressing that there is a need for a peaceful solution and a cease-fire on all Syrian territory and open the way for the Syrian-Syrian dialogue.

On the UN envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura's participation in the summit, Safadi said he will brief the gathering on his efforts and the outcomes of negotiations in Geneva.

Responding to a question, the foreign minister said Jordanian-Saudi relations are strong, historic and strategic, based on a common understanding of how to address various issues.
He expressed hope that King Salman's visit will contribute to boosting relations and opening new horizons for economic and investment cooperation.

Responding to a question on the possibility of providing assistance to refugee-host countries, Safadi said there are no decisions so far. "The decisions do not become decisions unless they are approved by the summit at the level of leaders, and therefore all these issues are discussed and will be presented to the foreign ministers," he said.
