Iranian President stresses Jordan's role in resolving Syrian crisis

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Iran President, Hassan Rouhani, on Wednesday, received Lower House Speaker, Atef Tarawneh, who conveyed the greetings of His Majesty King Abdullah II to President Rouhani.

During the meeting, Rouhani said his country is pinning high hopes on the meetings that take place with Jordanian officials, conveying his greetings to His Majesty the King.

Rouhani said there is no solution to the Syrian crisis but a political solution, stressing that Tehran supports the political negotiations in Astana and Geneva, noting that Jordan can play an effective role in supporting efforts towards a political solution to the Syrian crisis.

He pointed out that the region suffers from many problems, as Iran and Jordan are neighbors to Iraq and Syria, which poses security challenges the two countries, saying that consultation and exchanging ideas are the ways to find solutions to the region's crises.

Rouhani called upon the region's countries to support the governments of Syria and Iraq in their war against terrorism.

The Iranian president called for strengthening bilateral relations in political and economic fields, in order to serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples.

The Lower House Speaker stressed the importance of promoting relations between Jordan and Iran to achieve stability in the region and find political solutions to its crises, especially in Syria.

He pointed out that the Palestinian issue is among Jordan's top priorities, referring to His Majesty the King's efforts at all international forums to serve the Palestinian cause on the basis of two-state solution.

Tarawneh said Jordan is spearheading efforts against the relocation of the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which would undermine the future of the political process.

The house speaker warned that unilateral Israeli steps and the continuation of Israel's policy of settlement expansion and the ongoing attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites wiuld lead to more extremism in the region.

He stressed that the war on terror is a top priority for the Kingdom, and that bringing the various Islamic sects together would help in addressing extremism and safeguard Islam's image.

Tarawneh emphasized that efforts should now focus restoring security in Syria and Iraq, pointing out that Jordan does not interfere in the affairs of neighboring countries.

Tarawneh also met with Speaker of the Iranian Shura Council, Ali Larijani, and discussed with him a number of regional issues, including the Palestinian cause, Syrian and the latest developments in Syria.

Larijani emphasized the importance of Jordan's presence and participation in the 6th international conference in support of the Palestinian people.
