Jordan, Iraq discuss transport cooperation

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minster Hani Mulki, Thursday welcomed the establishment of joint ventures with Iraq to serve the interests of the two countries, mainly in the transport field .
During a meeting with the Iraqi Minister of Transport, Kazim Hamami, Mulki stressed the depth of historic relations between the two countries, expressing keenness to further boost bilateral cooperation in various domains.
Hamami, who conveyed to the premier a verbal message from Iraqi's Prime Haider Abbadi, which included an invitation to visit Iraq, stressing that Jordan will have priority in all development projects carried out by his country.
The Iraqi minister briefed Mulki on the decision of the Iraqi Prime Minister to form a committee to take all necessary procedures to accelerate opening the land route between the two countries.
Later today, the Iraqi official will visit Safwan border crossing between Iraq and Kuwait, which is used by Jordanian trucks to export goods to his country following the closure of Trebil border crossing between Jordan and Iraq.
The minister said he will address all obstacles facing the flow of Jordanian exports to the Iraqi markets, including lowering fees imposed on them.
Discussions between the two officials tackled means of increasing the Iraqi benefits from the Aqaba port and make it the main trade route between the two countries.
The meeting was attended by State Minister for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani, Transport Minister Yahia Kasabi and the Iraqi Ambassador to Jordan Safia Al Suhail.
