Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini has decided to send a mission to observe the Parliamentary Elections scheduled for September 20th this year in the Kingdom.
The decision follows an invitation sent to the bloc by the Independent Elections Commission (IEC) to observe the vote. Similar invitations were also sent to various international bodies, according to the commission.
Today, IEC Chief Commissioner Khaled Kalaldeh met with EU Ambassador to Jordan Andrea Matteo Fontana and discussed with him efforts underway to prepare for the polls and said the commission has put in place measures to ensure a fair and successful vote.
The ambassador voiced the EU's support to Jordan's non-stop efforts designed to boost political reform, saying the decision to send a mission to observe the elections reflects the bloc's firm support to Jordan.
Fontana commended as big great strides steps taken by the Kingdom in the past years in terms of passing new legislation and preparing a new framework for the electoral process. He pledged that the EU observer mission will work "with all neutrality and independence in accordance with international standards and would not interfere in any way in the electoral process."
