Jordan is fifth top Arab country on Social Progress Index

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan has ranked fifth top Arab country on the Social Progress Index for 2016, while it ranked No. 71 among 133 countries in the world, according to Social Progress Imperative organization.

The index is based on three main dimensions, namely the Basic Human Needs Dimension, the Foundations of Wellbeing Dimension and the Opportunity Dimension. In the Basic Human Needs Dimension, Jordan performs best on Nutrition and Basic Medical Care and has most opportunity to improve on the Personal Safety component, the index authors said. In the Foundations of Wellbeing Dimension, Jordan scores highest on Access to Basic Knowledge but lags on the Health and Wellness component. In the Opportunity Dimension, Jordan is strongest on Personal Freedom and Choice and has the most room to improve on Personal Rights.

At the Arab World level, Jordan ranked fifth, following the UAE (39 globally), Kuwait (45 globally), Tunisia (56 globally) and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (65 globally).

The Index, produced by the U.S. nonprofit Social Progress Imperative, examines the relationship between a country’s economic health and the well-being of its citizens.
