Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Senate on Monday endorsed the draft amendment to the 2016 Jordanian Constitution as referred from the Lower House.
During a session chaired by Senate President, Faisal Al Fayez, and attended by Prime Minister, Abdullah Ensour, the premier said the government will submit six draft bills to revise their articles during the current session, and after the constitutional amendments enter into force.
The six draft laws contain one article that cancels the condition of dual nationality, most importantly in the Elections, the Constitutional Court, Integrity and other draft bills, the premier explained.
Al Fayez said the changes to the constitution will support "our national reform programme, which we all strive to achieve." He added the reform march in Jordan will continue according to gradual and studied steps, assisted by the King's strong political will and clear vision.
Ensour also described the 2016 constitutional amendments as progressive, aiming at enhancing the principle of separation of powers.
The amendments gave new powers to the King and allowed citizens with dual nationalities to occupy senior public posts and parliamentary seats.
