King, Saudi Monarch hold talks in Riyadh

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II and Saudi Monarch Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud held talks in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Wednesday, that focused on the latest developments in the region, and means to address them to achieve the common interests of both countries.

The discussions also dealt with Jordanian-Saudi ties and means to further boost them in various domains.

At the conclusion of the visit, the two sides issued a joint communique outlining agreements and understandings reached following talks between His Majesty and the Saudi Monarch.


"Based on the deep-rooted and historical relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan under the leaderships of the Custodian of the Two Holy Shrines King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia and His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan, His Majesty King Abdullah visited Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, April 27, the statement said.

King Abdullah and the Saudi Monarch held talks on regional and international developments as well as means to forge closer ties between the two countries.

The two sides signed a memo to establish a Saudi-Jordanian Coordination Council in Riyadh that will be chaired by Saudi Deputy Crown Prince and Minister of Defence Mohammad Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz, and Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour.

The council aims to boost strategic ties between the two countries as well as consultations and coordination on bilateral, regional and international issues to achieve the aspirations of the two countries' leaderships and peoples. The council will meet alternately in both countries in line with the memo.

His Majesty voiced thanks and appreciation for the Saudi monarch for the hospitality that was accorded to him and the accompanying delegation.

The memo was signed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh and Saudi State Minister for Foreign Affairs Nizar Bin Obaid Madani.

The two leaders affirmed during the talks that were attended by senior officials from both sides, their keenness to bolster Jordanian-Saudi ties in the interest of both countries and peoples.

His Majesty extended an invitation to the Saudi monarch to visit Jordan.

Earlier, the King was accorded an official welcome upon his arrival at the Yamamah palace in Riyadh. The two leaders reviewed a guard of honor as a military band played the national anthem of both countries.

The King was also received by a number of Saudi royal family members, as well as senior civil and military officials.

His Majesty was accompanied by Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Judeh, King's Advisor for Military Affairs and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mashal Mohammad Al Zaben, The King's Envoy to Saudi Arabia Bassim Awadallah, King’s Office Director Jafar Hassan, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury and Jordan's Ambassador in Riyadh Jamal Al Shamayleh.

The Saudi Monarch held a lunch banquet in honour of His Majesty and the accompanying delegation.

Upon arrival at the airport, King Abdullah was received by Saudi King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, a number of royal family members, senior Saudi officials as well as Jordan's ambassador in Riyadh.
