Jordan's FM, Singaporean counterpart discuss region, ties

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, Monday, met his Singaporean counterpart, Vivian Balakrishnan, for talks on bilateral ties and ways to boost them in various fields.

At the meeting here in Amman, both sides emphasized the importance of expanding economic and investment ties and continue efforts to explore more joint economic cooperation opportunities.

The two officials highlighted the importance of the Free Trade Agreement between the two countries in opening new markets for Jordanian-Singaporean exports.

Furthermore, they agreed to benefit from both countries' expertise by exchanging vocational, businessmen and private sector representatives visits, building human capacity, consolidating economic and investment cooperation between both countries' institutions' and activating the already signed agreements between the two countries.

Judeh, who is also deputy premier also reviewed with Balakrishnan, efforts to fight terrorism within a holistic approach, where Judeh said Jordan has always been and will remain at the forefront of international efforts to fight this phenomenon.

On Syria, the foreign minister spoke about endeavors to find a political settlement to the Syrian crisis according to UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and the Geneva 1 Resolutions. He also reiterated the Kingdom's stance that calls for reaching a political solution in the war-torn country that ensures its security, unity and territorial integrity with the participation of all segments of Syrian society.

Also, Judeh echoed the Kingdom's support to efforts aimed at re-launching peace negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state as per the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the international terms of reference as well as the Arab Peace Initiative, in order to preserve and safeguard Jordan's interests.

The Singaporean official commended the security and peace Jordan enjoys and stressed his country's keenness to maintain coordination and cooperation with Jordan in various fields.

He also expressed his country's appreciation for Jordan's stances under His Majesty King Abdullah leadership, in addressing regional issues, in order to bring about peace and security.
