Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II, Tuesday, underlined the strong friendship and strategic cooperation between Jordan and the United States, and hailed Congress' vital role to enhance relations.

The King told US House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan and an accompanying team of lawmakers that he appreciated the vital support of the US Congress in cementing bilateral ties and Washington's aid to the Kingdom.

The Palestinian issue, the Syrian crisis and its repercussions on Jordan as well as the fight against terrorism, featured prominently during the talks with the delegation, comprising lawmakers from both the republic and democratic parties.

King Abdullah reviewed challenges posed to Jordan as a result of regional crises and the size of burdens the Kingdom had to endure for receiving a huge number of Syrian refugees. He noted, in this context, the need to build on a recent donor conference in London, in which a number of parties had pledged aid to countries affected by the Syrian refugee crisis, foremost of which is Jordan.

His Majesty stressed the necessity of intensifying efforts by all concerned parties to end the stalemate in the Palestinian-Israeli peace process to make progress based on the two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions. He warned that failure to bring peace would fuel tensions and feed extremism in the region.

Ryan and his team said they appreciated the King's support to bring about peace and stability in the region and the world, and pointed to Jordan's role in combatting the threat of terrorism and terrorist gangs.

During the meeting, attended by HRH Prince Faisal Ibn Al Hussein and other officials, the lawmakers reiterated that the United States would continue its aid to the Kingdom to address the challenges and maintain its security and capabilities in the various domains.
