Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prince Ali Al Hussein, a candidate for the next president of FIFA and son of King Hussein of Jordan, will speak at a National Press Club luncheon on Friday, December 4. Prince Ali will address how FIFA can a governing body worthy of the "World's Game" of soccer in the wake of the organization's recent corruption scandal.

Prince Ali has been a consistent voice for reform at FIFA. He was the only candidate who challenged FIFA President Sepp Blatter in the May 29 election, receiving 73 votes at a time when Blatter was widely considered unbeatable. Blatter announced his decision to resign less than a week later, setting in motion plans for another FIFA election on February 26. British bookmakers, who rated Prince Ali a 20-to-1 longshot in May, now rank him as the frontrunner to become the next FIFA president.

His campaign platform is built on his desire to provide credible leadership, with a strong focus on accountability, transparency and good governance. Based on his experience as President of the Jordan Football Association, Prince Ali also puts a high priority on developing youth and women's football worldwide. In keeping with these goals, he established the non-profit Asian Football Development Project in 2012 to develop football across Asia, with the goal of supporting youth development, empowering women and social responsibility.

A Princeton graduate, Prince Ali has also served as a parachutist in the Jordanian military and oversaw the establishment of the National Center for Security and Crisis Management for the Kingdom of Jordan.

He is married to the former Rym Brahimi, who earned a master's degree in journalism at Columbia University and served as a foreign correspondent for CNN. In her previous career, Princess Rym covered the Iraq war until she and three of her CNN colleagues were expelled by the Iraqi government. Prince Ali and Princess Rym live in Amman with their two young children.

The Press Club luncheon will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m. Remarks will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session ending at 2 p.m. Tickets may be purchase by going to the following link.
