Senate endorses draft decentralization law

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Senate's joint legal and administrative committee on Wednesday passed the Decentralization draft law as referred from the Lower House of Parliament with some amendments.

The bill allocates 10 percent of the governorates' seats for women with the highest number of votes in the constituency, on the condition that no more than one seat will be allocated for women in each electoral constituency.

According to the Law, 75 percent of members of each governorate council will be elected, while the other 25 percent will be appointed by the Cabinet.

The joint committee's decision canceled the bachelor degree as a requirement to run for presidency and the membership of the provincial councils.
