Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The crisis of Egyptian drivers stranded on the Iraqi-Jordanian borders has ended, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid on Sunday 9/8/2015.

In July, Iraq closed its border with Jordan until further notice in part to deprive Daesh militants of taxes they impose on cargo trucks driving through their territory, leaving a number of Egyptian truck drivers stranded on the borders.

After efforts exerted by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry and the Egyptian embassy in Baghdad, the Iraqi authorities allowed the Egyptian trucks to cross the border, Abu Zeid added.

The Egyptian drivers alongside their trucks are expected to cross the Jordanian border on Sunday, the spokesman noted.

He expressed thanks to the Iraqi government for immediate response to the Egyptian demand.
