‘BaytSilsal at Ruwwad’ Hosts Third Annual Art Exhibition

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Non-profit community empowerment organization,Ruwwad Al Tanmeya,has held its third annual ‘BaytSilsal at Ruwwad’ exhibition entitled ‘Bustan’, which showcased clay pots created by a group of young adults with disabilities. Hosted by the Nabad Art Gallery Garden, the exhibition opened its doors on 30 May and will continue until 6 June, 2015.

‘Bustan’is exhibitinga set of garden clay pots sculpted and painted by 16 young men and women over the past five months, further building on previous exhibitions that featured canvas paintings during 2013 and 2014. This progression from painting to sculpture reflects the personal and artistic development of the youth who have come to BaytSilsal to unlock their hidden potential. The style of the work was reminiscent of the Japanese ‘WabiSabi’ art form, which is sometimes described asimperfect, impermanent and incomplete. This exhibit was preparedbyBaytSilsal coordinator,MaysoonAyyoub, with the help of Mohammad Salem, who prepared the clay, and glazed and fired the pieces.

Founded by Jordanian artist,RulaAtalla, in partnership with Ruwwad Al Tanmeya, BaytSilsalwas established in 2006 at Ruwwad’s main center in Jabal Al-Natheef, initially with the enrollment of two young boys with disabilities.It was intended as a creative space for disabled youth to experiment, grow and explore their own passion and ingenuity through art.

Ruwwad Al Tanmeya is a non-profit community empowerment organization that helps disadvantaged communities overcome marginalization through youth activism, civic engagement and education. Founded by Jordanian businessman FadiGhandour and a group of business entrepreneurs, Ruwwad Al Tanmeya is currently supported by Aramex and Cairo Amman Bank. Ruwwad Al Tanmeya establishes community empowerment centers in marginalized areas in order to offer youth educational scholarships in return for community service across three programs: Child, youth and community. Over the years, Ruwwad Al Tanmeya’s operations have grown to encompass Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon and Egypt.
