Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II, who is currently on a working tour to Germany, met with German President Joachim Gauck in Berlin, Wednesday to discuss ways to forge closer ties between Jordan and Germany as well as the latest regional and international developments.

During the meeting, which was held at the presidential palace, the two leaders voiced their keenness to strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two countries, mainly in the political, economic and development fields.

They also stressed the importance of maintaining coordination and consultations on regional and international issues of concern to both countries as well as the need to preserve peace, security and stability in the Middle East and the world.

In this context, His Majesty pointed to the role that could be played by Germany to resolve the Middle East crises, mainly through contribution to countering terrorism and extremism.

The King reiterated the importance of adopting a strategic and holistic approach to counter terrorism that includes all military, security, ideological, social and educational dimensions.

On the Middle East peace process, King Abdullah urged all regional and international parties, including the European Union and Germany, to intensify their efforts and relevant conditions to revive the peace process between the Palestinians and Israelis, and remove obstacles that hamper the resumption of peace talks in accordance with the two-state solution.

The King and the German president also reviewed developments in the Arab world, mainly in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Yemen.

President Gauck praised the strong ties between Jordan and Germany and voiced keenness to further boost them in various fields.
He also appreciated the King's efforts and wisdom in addressing challenges facing the region.

The meeting was attended by Royal Court Chief, Fayez Tarawneh, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, Director of the King's Office, Jafar Hassan, Jordan's Ambassador to Germany Mazen Tal as well as top German officials.

Earlier, the King was accorded an official welcome upon his arrival at the presidential palace. The King and the German president reviewed a guard of honor as a military band played the national anthem of both countries.
