Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Egyptian ambassador to the United Nations, Amr Abdellatif, said Saturday that Jordan has close ties with various Arab and world nations and that the Kingdom's presidency of the Security Council is of utmost importance to the Arab world.

"Jordan's membership of the Security Council is very important for all Arab countries, including the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and Egypt in particular," Abdellatif told reporters on the sidelines of a Council meeting, chaired by Jordan.

"Jordan has distinguished relations with Arab and foreign countries, and that they have mutual respect as those countries continually seek to cooperate and consult with it, particularly with regard to the issues of our region," he added.

During its presidency and membership of the Council, he said, Jordan had managed to "bring views closer" concerning a number of key issues, particularly decisions on conflict-torn countries as Yemen and Libya and to secure aid to Syrian refugees.

He also said key issues are on the Council's agenda this coming week.

The 15-member Council will tackle a host of issues next week, including a session to be chaired by HRH Crown Prince Hussein on youth in conflict zones and their role in peacemaking, as well as discussions of the Middle East, the Palestinian issue, Yemen and Syria as well as Libya, anti-terrorism and African issues.
