Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Jordanian government is still carrying out the construction and restoration projects at the Al Aqsa Mosque, which come in implementation of the Hashemite custodianship of the holy mosque, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Sabah Al Rafie said on Friday.

She added that the last of these projects was laying out a new carpet donated by His Majesty to furnish the Marwani Mosque, which is located under Al Aqsa Mosque.

The ministry official affirmed that Jordan will continue its custodianships of these holy places, mainly Al Aqsa Mosque. Al Rafie made the remarks in response to statements by the Israeli minister of construction and housing, in which he claimed that the Awqaf Department was prevented from carrying out maintenance works at the holy shrine.

"The Jordanian Government, and through diplomatic channels, has protested the statements of the minister," the official said, adding that the Israeli government affirmed that such statements do not represent its stances.

The Israeli government, she noted, has reiterated its respect of the Hashemite custodianship of the holy places in Eastern Jerusalem, as stipulated by the 1994 peace treaty.
