King back home after taking part in Arab summit

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II took part in the 26th Arab League summit that began Saturday in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh with the participation of a number of Arab leaders and representatives of regional and international organisations.

On the sidelines of the summit, the King met with Egyptian president Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Iraqi president Fuad Masum, President of the Republic of Djibouti Ismail Omar Guelleh and Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

In remarks during the meetings, His Majesty stressed the need to reactivate the Arab League's role as it contributes to serving the Arab nation and its interests to confront all challenges and threats facing the region.

The meetings dealt with Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Libya and Palestine, wherein the King called for a political solution to these critical issues in the region.

The fight against terrorism was also figured high on the meetings, with the King emphasizing that a collective effort is needed to confront terror and extremist gangs, in which a comprehensive strategy needs to be adopted to stand against all forms of violence and extremism.

King Abdullah noted Egypt's efforts to host the summit and its desire to make it a success "in order to serve Arab issues and their mutual interests".


His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Saturday, returned home after attending the Arab summit convened in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

The King asked Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour to head Jordan's delegation to the summit.
