Jordan's approach towards the Syrian refugee crisis is based on Hashemite message: Minister

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of State for Media Affairs and government spokesman, Mohammad Al Momani, on Monday, said that Jordan's approach toward the Syrian refugee crisis is based on human values and the Hashemite message and historical stance toward brothers, taking into account the supreme national interest of Jordan.

During a meeting with a US student delegation from Harvard University, Al Momani stressed that the burdens of hosting Syrian refugees on the national economy have put pressure on the state budget, resources, infrastructure, education, health and the labor market in addition to the effects on borders and security.

The delegation is currently visiting Jordan to discuss the Syrian crisis.

The minister added that four years of dealing with the refugee crisis indicates the success of Jordan's efforts in this area, adding that this proves the Jordan's ability to deal with this crisis in an exceptional manner and is a model example for all the countries of the world.

The government spokesman and the delegation discussed plans and programs that Jordan applies with regard to the Syrian crisis at internal and external levels. He also pointed to Jordan's record in hosting refugees since 1948 until today, which requires massive efforts on the social, economic, political and security levels. In the forefront are the political efforts led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, he added.

Al Momani reaffirmed Jordan's position since the beginning of the Syrian crisis, which was marked by realism and professionalism based on civil and military state estimations. He called for a political solution which guarantees the unity and stability of Syria and the return of Syrian refugees, including those in the Kingdom, to their country.

He said that Jordan supports Russian efforts to gather all Syrian parties for a dialogue and find a political solution to the crisis.

Al Momani also praised the countries that support Jordan in hosting the refugees, calling on the international community and organizations to increase their support for Amman in that matter.

During the meeting, the Minister of State for Media Affairs answered questions of students that tackled the implications of the crisis on Jordan and how to provide services to refugees, as well as government measures and mechanisms to deal with them. He also spoke about how to address the international community and the surrounding Arab countries and interiors in this regard.
