Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - As a polar front started affecting Jordan this week, many Jordanians decided to volunteer to help their neighbours during these harsh weather conditions.

Since Tuesday evening, Jordanian volunteers began posting their mobile numbers on various social media networks and contacting radio and television shows to provide their phone numbers in case anyone needed help during the snowstorm.

Baker Khawaldeh, a resident of Balaama area, 15km west of Mafraq, said area residents decided to store food and other supplies at a Koran centre nearby to provide assistance for those who need such items.

"Two of our own cars will be parked outside the centre to transport these items to people who are in need," he told The Jordan Times over the phone on Wednesday.

Khawaldeh, together with 15 young Jordanians, will be ready to deliver several items to people residing in Balaama and its neighbouring villages, he said.

"Some people live far from the city or in remote areas and they need help as well," he added,

Meanwhile, a group of 22 Circassians also created a group to help others during the rain and snow.

"We have cars equipped for such weather conditions, so we thought we should give a hand to people, and the civil defence and public security departments," Issam Janakat, a member of the Circassian group, said.

Janakat said priority is given to the elderly and those in need of transport, medicines, gas cylinders and food.

Several Facebook pages have also been created to bring together volunteers and put them in touch with people who are in need.

The group, “Shabab Share”, is one example (https://www.facebook.com/events/599128480231442/?ref=3&ref_newsfeed_story_type=regular&fref=nf), enabling volunteers to post freely and reach out to people who require assistance.
